Disney Deliciously Wicked Gourmet Red Velvet Cake Salt Water Taffy

I’m a HUGE Disney fan.

Especially anything that involves Disney travel and vacations, like Disney World.

So when I was browsing Amazon.com looking for some red velvet goodies, I saw something unusual- red velvet salt water taffy.

But wait, there’s more.

It was made by Disney!

WHAT!?!?

So me being the world’s biggest Disney enthusiast there is, I couldn’t resist the temptation to not buy their Delicious Wicked Gourmet Red Velvet Cake Saltwater Taffy (affiliate link).

I instantly added it to my checkout cart, and patiently waited for 2 days until my package finally arrived at my doorstep.

And now, the moment of truth…

Packaging and Presentation

  • Nice packaging
  • Cruella de Vil truly makes this packaging wicked
  • The brown color in the center of the taffy kind of tells you that there may be a little hint of chocolate

Pepperidge Farm 3 Layer Red Velvet Cake

by Adam Bryan on January 8, 2013

Pepperidge Farm Red Velvet Cake

I have to admit, I’m not someone who buy’s a lot of Pepperidge Farm products.

Heck, I don’t even think I’ve tried that many Pepperidge Farm products except for those Milano cookies.

It’s not that I have anything against them, I just don’t buy bagged cookies in general. I’m more of a fresh baked goods kind of guy.

But hey, I’m on a mission to try all things red velvet, so when I saw a box of Pepperidge Farm 3 Layer Red Velvet Cake, I just had to get it.

So I went ahead and bought it to see if it tastes as good as it looks on the box.

Dunkin Donuts Red Velvet Munchkins

by Adam Bryan on January 5, 2013

8343647592_5d26b4e343_b

I have to admit, I was pretty stoked when I found out that Dunkin Donuts actually had red velvet munchkins.

Like I totally love munchkins, especially the cake and glazed ones. (I’m getting hungry just thinking about them.)

But now there’s a new red velvet munchkin?

What better combination can there be?

So to see if these munchkins lived up to my expectations, I just had to try them as soon as possible.

And that’s exactly what I did!

Da Review

And now, the moment of truth…

Packaging and Presentation

  • There’s not much to say here except for the fact that they came in a holiday themed munchkin box

Smell

  • There was literally no smell. I’m not even playing.

Taste

  • Strong chocolate with a slight, typical red velvet tasting finish.
  • It’s a little difficult to taste any signs of red velvet.
  • Very moist cake
  • If you ate this during a blind taste test, you will probably mistake it for a regular chocolate munchkin.. Only the experience red velvet enthusiasts will know that this is a red velvet munchkin.

Frosting and Icing

  • Just the typical Dunkin Donuts glaze.

Where to get it

  • Dunkin Donuts

Eat it? Yes or No

  • Yes. Munchkins are always a great Dunkin Donuts choice. The Red Velvet Munchkin is one of the best.

Rating

4 TASTEBUDS- Damn that’s good! I could’ve given it a 3 because although munchkins are delicious, the signature red velvet taste wasn’t potent. But I’m in a good mood and it was pretty good so 4 it is!

Ben & Jerry’s Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream

by Adam Bryan on January 2, 2013

Ben and Jerry's Red Velvet Cake Ice CreamI can’t believe my eyes but it’s true.

Ben & Jerry’s has Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream!

And what did I do when I found this out?

I jumped for joy then raced on over to my local grocery store to by myself a pint of this delicious sounding concoction.

Da Review

And now, the moment of truth…

Packaging and Presentation

  • Looks very enticing
  • The packaging is very bright and colorful
  • The container really makes me to eat this ice cream badly
  • I expected the ice cream to have the signature red velvet color but it was actually a light pink with a few red chunks throughout.

Ben and Jerry's Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream

Smell

  • It smells like plain yogurt that you would eat in a parfait. Not greek yogurt though. Just regular plain yogurt.
  • Maybe a small hint of vanilla which gives it that cake batter scent.

Taste

  • It seriously only tastes like cake batter ice cream with a few small red velvet cake pieces in each spoonful
  • There’s a small red velvet cake taste in the end, but it’s not very strong.
  • That being said, the cake batter ice cream is delicious and a little chunky
  • Just like all Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, you have to chew it

Ben and Jerry's Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream

Icing and Frosting

  • You can taste small hints of the cream cheese icing that was mixed into the ice cream. I think this is what gives this red velvet cake ice cream the vanilla or plain yogurt smell.

Where to Get It

Get It? Yes or No

Yes, of course. It’s my new favorite Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. Actually it’s my second favorite behind the classic Chunky Monkey.

Starbucks Whoopie Pie…I NEED THIS!

by Adam Bryan on December 26, 2012

IMG_5666

So despite the fact that I go to Starbucks like all the time, I’ve never even noticed that they had a red velvet whoopie pie.

How could I miss that!?

I mean seriously, I should be ashamed of myself.

Now I just found out about this today online while surfing the web, so I have not tried them yet. Ughh.

But the next time I swing by a Starbucks, I’m going to be sure to try this red velvet whoopie pie and review it. I promise!

Bon Appetit

p.s. Now in case you didn’t know, I wrote a gluten free fast food guide that can be found on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. One of my most popular gluten free requests was Starbucks. So in case you are curious to know what exactly is gluten free at Starbucks, please be sure to check out my full Starbucks gluten free menu post. Thanks!

And yes, I know, that was very random :D

Cheesecake Factory Red Velvet Cheesecake

by Adam Bryan on December 19, 2012

The Cheesecake Factory Red Velvet Cheesecake

I’m a huge fan of The Cheesecake Factory.

They the best Sunday brunch around plus their menu is jam packed with a ton of quality choices. (On a side note, they have the best french toast I’ve ever had in my life. I’m not even kidding. It’s called Bruleed French Toast.)

And let me not forget to mention their amazing cheesecakes.

And most importantly, my all time favorite- the red velvet cheesecake.

Da Review

And now, the moment of truth…

Packaging and Presentation

  • Very large portion
  • Lots of whipped cream on the side
  • Looked very neat and professional, even when you order it to-go

Smell

  • Just normal cheesecake
  • It’s a tiny tiny tiny plastic bag smell
  • That being said, it smells very good

Taste

  • A very moist and light red velvet cake paired with a smooth and creamy cheesecake that’s heavy on your stomach.
  • You can barely taste the red velvet cake because the cheesecake is so much sweeter and overwhelming.
  • You wouldn’t really know that it’s a red velvet cake unless you actually tried very hard to distinguish it’s taste from the rest. I mean seriously, it could be a chocolate cake for all I know.
  • But overall, it’s a perfect combination of the red velvet cake and the sweet, thick, and creamy cheesecake.

Icing and Frosting

  • Very thin layer thats very liquidy and sweet
  • You cant even tell it’s there because the cheesecake taste is more overpowering

Where to get it

The Cheesecake Factory

Eat it? Yes or No

Heck yeah. It’s so good. One of my favorites.

Wegmans’ Red Velvet Cake

by Adam Bryan on December 19, 2012

Wegans Red Velvet Cake

So there’s this pretty fancy, upscale grocery store down the street from my home called Wegman’s.

I love this store so much!

They store is just so amazing that words can’t describe it.

You will be shocked when you go there for the first time.

Anyways, as I was strolling through the store, I decided to swing by their bakery section to see if there was anything to satisfy my sweet tooth.

And guess what I saw?

Yup, you guessed it. Red velvet cake.

And what did I do when I saw that?

Grabbed it quickly and bolted towards the check out line so I could go eat and review it.

Da Review

And now, the moment of truth…

Packaging and Presentation

  • Presentation-wise, the cake looks nice and neat.
  • Packaging-wise, the cake comes in a clear plastic container. Nothing special.
  • I mean seriously, you can’t expect too much from a grocery store. Just being honest.

Smell

  • Every smelt something that smelt cold? Like as if it’s been refrigerated.
  • Semi-sweet.

Taste

  • Semi-strong red velvet taste with a slightly bitter finish.
  • The cocoa is very weak in the cake.

Icing and Frosting

  • The icing has a liquidy feel that essentially melts in your mouth. That being said, I’m not a huge fan of that sensation.

Where to get it

Eat it? Yes or No

  • No. If you do, just eat the cake, not the icing.

Flavor’s Red Velvet Cupcake

by Adam Bryan on December 19, 2012

8312980348_4fe3ba8b98_k

So one day I was out to lunch with my friend. As we were catching up,  the topic of food came into our discussion, like always.

As we started talking about all the great places to try around our are, she mentioned one place that really got my attention.

Flavor Cupcake.

Now this wasn’t’ just some little-known bakery. It was actually the winner of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars (season 4).

So me being the red velvet enthusiast I am, I just couldn’t resist but take a drive over to the cupcake shop and see what all the hype was all about.

When I arrived at the shop, there was only one cupcake I wanted to try- red velvet.

So I went and got 2 of them. One to devour instantly which is what I did in the car. And one to review.

Da Review

And now, the moment of truth…

Packaging and Presentation

  • Icing was applied to the cake very nicely
  • The box it came in was boring. Imagine a brown paper bag but in box form.
  • Actually you know what, it’s more like a brown cardboard box with a little logo sticker.

Smell

  • Very sweet and cream cheesy

Taste

  • Chewy and thick.
  • It has a cornbread texture and feel to it.

Icing and Frosting

  • Smooth, creamy, and delicious cream cheese icing

Where to Get It

Eat it? Yes or No

Both yes and no. Take the icing off and put it on another red velvet cake. I’m not even kidding.

McCormick and Schmick’s Red Velvet Cake

by Adam Bryan on December 19, 2012

This cake was so bad that I didn’t even want to post the picture of it.

I’m not even going to talk about the eating experience because I’m still mad about this cake.

Da Review

And now, the moment of truth…

Packaging and Presentation

  • The cake looked pretty good from the outside.
  • Looked like a typical 2 layer red velvet cake.

Smell

  • Very sweet
  • A tiny hint of citrus (orange)

Taste

  • A bitter red velvet taste that’s very hard to even distinguish.
  • Crumbly, dry texture

Icing and Frosting

  • Tangy cream cream cheese icing
  • It tastes like your eating an orange that’s not even ripe yet. Yuck.

Where to get it

Eat it? Yes or No

  • No way Jose unless you like red velvet cake that tastes nothing like red velvet.
